Quantum Computing is a new area in the world of Computing. There are only a few quantum computers but there are many challenges about their use in common circumstances. Despite this, use of quantum computing has started in the research works. In the recent experiment, quantum computing was done in the field of chemistry in which Google researchers got success.
Google has successfully completed the largest chemical simulation on a quantum computer. This is considered to be an achievement that will open many new dimensions in the field of chemistry. It is going to benefit many industries. In a research published in the Science Journal, the Google team wrote, "Essentially, we confirm that the algorithm being developed for the quantum computers available now, can provide accuracy in the direction of real simulations for quantum chemical systems."
This experiment was carried out on the Sycamore processor which was recently used for quantum supremacy. Google's chief executive Sundar Pichai said in his tweet, "Glad that Google's team has achieved new breakthrough in quantum chemistry, which is the largest quantum calculation ever in chemistry, and for the first time a quantum computer has been used to model towards the chemical reaction.
Google AI quantum team directly simulated a chemistry method through quantum algorithms. For this, they used a special noise robotic Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE). This entire calculation was focused on the approximation of a real chemistry system named Hartree-Fock. The most important thing about this whole calculation was that it was twice as large as the previous large calculations done on a quantum computer and at least 10 times more quantum gate operation was used in it.
Hartree-Fock is a method of approximation in mathematical physics and chemistry that determines the energy of a Wave Function and the quantum many body system in a steady state. It can be considered as a method of calculation at the electron level that cannot be done experimentally and for these the use of the Hartree-Fock method is a measure. Today's quantum computers are so powerful that in many calculations one can easily surpass the traditional computer. At the moment it is still a big question whether such devices can accelerate the simulation technology of current quantum chemistry or not?
However, Google researchers have released the code for their experiment. Researchers hope that this experiment will contribute to faster completion of chemical calculations on quantum processors. Quantum computing uses quantum phenomena for computation. Due to this, there are many models and they are calculated in many ways.
